UNDISPUTED World Go-As-You-Please draughts champion Ronald "Suki" King, who now goes by the name King Suki, has been busy and from the looks of it, the near future will be just as busy, as he will soon be able to add movie star to his list of accomplishments.

In addition to this, he also has an upcoming world title clash where he seeks to regain his draughts title.

King, who has been busy giving back, teaching the game to youngsters, and crafting boards for the upcoming Guinness World Record attempt, says with all this he has not had much time for playing the game that has brought him local and international recognition.

Speaking at a recent Press conference, King spoke immodestly of his impending "movie stardom", while seriously touching on the documentary, his work within the schools, and the upcoming match to defend his title October 5 to 15 in Cleveland, Ohio, United States, against Alex Moiseyev.

"Alex is not a movie star, he is just Alex Moiseyev. I am now King Suki movie star, so who can stop me from winning?" he said.

The documentary, which will chronicle King's career, his beginnings to his rise to international acclaim, will also feature a South African player prominent in the area of draughts.

Geoff Yaw, of Think Media who is coordinating the filming, said that until the commission to do the project he had never heard of draughts as a world-class game, far less Suki King, but in the year that he has been working on the project he realized the impact the game has on an international scale.

As he referred to King and his career, which he summed up as illustrious, he said: "When we met Suki and realized that this man has not only managed to attain and retain the championship status for literally decades, it truly is a unique story. He is an individual who has a truly unique skill."

He added that King's persona as well as his skills as a player, made him an excellent subject for the film, which will be distributed internationally, and have a limited United States theatre release, before going onto DVD format for additional distribution.

King, an unofficial ambassador and promoter of Barbados, is also gearing up to celebrate 25 years in the game of draughts with the silver anniversary of King Suki.

While the dates of the activities have yet to be determined, Errol Barrow Square will be the venue where he seeks to break his previous Guinness Record of playing against 615 people, by playing against 1,000. His record was set in 2000 in Texas. (ABB)
