When: August 2nd-5th, 2006 Gates open 4 p.m. and the music starts at 6 p.m. Wednesday afternoon
until 10:00 p.m. Gates open again at 9 p.m. Thursday,Friday, and Saturday until 11:00 p.m.Where: The Huntington Police Recreational Farm, on West Virginia 152 in Wayne. Take 5th Street Road South out of town for several miles, into Wayne Co. then turn left into the farm. Huntington is beside the Ohio River and in Cabell County so that you don't get confused, when they say "Wayne" they're saying Wayne County.
This is an annual event, planned festivities include the return of bluegrass and gospel music, a beauty pageant, vegetable exhibits, arts and crafts, pony rides, clowns, fair rides, auto show and food. There will also be a second-annual horseshoe, checkers tournaments and one new addition -- the Gunslingers Old West Show, and much more.
Checker Tournament: 5:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday thru Friday and again at 4:00 p.m. Saturday. Chuck Thompson is the checker tournament coordinator.
Huntington resident, Bobby Maynard, the multi-instrumentalist who toured the country for five years with Dry Branch Fire Squad, brings his band Breakdown to today's bluegrass night at the Wayne County Fair. This is the second year he has come home and played the county fair, along with Down Tyme, Bottomline, and bluegrass legend Melvin Goins and Windy Mountain will also be there.
