Congratulations! to GM Alex Moiseyev of Dublin, Ohio who won the
tournament, and has been the World 11-Man Checker Champion since 2008.
Congratulations! to IM Tim Laverty of Graham, as our 2nd
place runner-up, who also earned the right to challenge the World Champion for a WTM.
GM stands for Grand Master, IM for International
Master, and CM for Candidate Master, which are earned titles given to
distinguish players by WCDF.
WCDF Rating No.7 (through June 2010) released 10/20/2010.
"T" separates player's opponent from player's accumulated game points. Win is 2 points, Draw is 1, Bye is 3.
Our small group resulted from bad weather in some areas which prerequisited we play a single division.
We voted to reduce the tournament to 8 rounds over three days, playing 3 rounds Thursday & Friday, and 2 rounds Saturday.
Tim Laverty was our official referee and scorekeeper. 11-Man Deck & System
Tim submitted a copy of all games to Alan Millhone and Alex Moiseyev to be reviewed, corrected, and annotated by Alex for publication.
We appreciated the donations and contributions which totaled $635.00 with this and the $325 entry fees it made a $960.00 total cash prize.
Locals like Garland Phillips, Granville Robinson, Bill Burnett, and Grover Minor all from Greensboro as well as Paul Bowen from Burlington, John Greene of Liberty, and Matt Clark of Charlotte visited us through out the tournament. These fellows didn't play but watched games, played some practice games, talk, socialized, ate lunch, and enjoyed the tournament.
Several ACF membership were renewed and some new ones joined.
Mayor Bill Knight visited the tournament Thursday morning and welcomed the players.
We had newspaper and Fox8 TV coverage announcing our tournament.
Refreshments: coffee, ice tea, water, and fruit etc. were available throughout the tournament, lunch was served daily in the banquet room.
Most players experienced a variety of good seafood served by Libby Hill our tournament venue.
A delightful tournament & wonderful fellowship was had by all who attended, with all the tough competition you would ever want!
Some GAMES in pdn.
