• Thanks to Larry Pollard - District V Mgr. / Tournament Director and Frank & Mary Davis - Referee & Scorekeeper.  We had 29 players representing 9 States: 8 from TN; 7 from NC; 3 from AL, & MS; 2 from GA, KY, & TX; and 1 from LA, & OH. We had 14 Masters, 8 Majors, and 7 Minors.  There were 10 wives, relatives, and friends attending this annual Alabama State event for the 6th continuous year at Haleyville.
• The Alabama / District 5 Checker Tournament continues to be a popular event on the ACF tournament calendar. One noticeable thing about this tournament was the closeness of players ability and no run-away scores in the Masters Division.
• A special thank you to Larry for his continued arrangements to hold our Alabama State & D5 in the Galley Restaurant meeting room in Haleyville, and for raising a TOTAL TOURNAMENT CASH PRIZE FUND of $2,062.00.

• We also appreciate the refreshments/drinks/water/cookies/cake/etc throughout the tournament and the delicious party trays delivered by Kelly, Larry Pollard's daughter, for lunch both days!

• Haleyville's Mayor Pro-tem, "Bicycle" Richard Bittinger gave guest and tournament players a warm welcome, and handed out New Testaments Bibles to all the veterans. There were also American Flags and the Haleyville 911 lapel pins as door prizes.  

• We voted to play seven rounds of 2 game per round of 1^1/4 hours per game, 4 rounds Friday and 3 rounds Saturday. Starting at 8:00 AM Saturday. Re-pairing opponents only in last round when necessary, and only one 3 point bye awarded to the lowest accumulated points per player, no multiple byes, it would go to the next lowest player.

• T separates player's opponent from player's accumulated game points. (win=2, draw=1, loss=0, bye=3) GM stands for Grand Master, IM stands for International Master, CM stands for Candidate Master, which are earned titles given to distinguish a player's status by WCDF.  B for bye, P for pass, F for forfeit, WD for withdrawal and those players drop to bottom. Ratings are from WCDF - September 2011 - No. 8

• The farthest traveling player: Ed King, 760 Miles from Graham, TX.

• Jim Mayhall with the Northwestern Alabamian was there getting a newspaper article and their photographer took many shots of the tournament. I hope to include these newspaper articles later.

• We decided Friday evening the Masters would play their scheduled 4 rounds Friday and the Majors & Minors would play an extra 5th round Friday, leaving only 2 remaining rounds Saturday.

• Frank Davis solicited key players for contributions for the 2012 3-Move National so Lebanon, TN could bid for this year's 2012 National. Frank reported he had $1,501.00 in commitments at the closing of our District 5 Tourney.

• After the tournament Larry Keen and Clyde Hallmark of Russellville, AL visited the gravesite of Basil Case in Duncan Creek Cemetery, Russellville, AL.

• Some players visited and shopped at Camo Warehouse Sale (Exxel Outdoors Inc.) which was open and running their annual fall sale over the same weekend as our tournament.

• This was a fun tournament, as weather was two nice Indian summer days. Delicious meals & good service at Galley Restaurant; a delightful tournament & fellowship for all who attended!
