for International Master, and CM for Candidate Master, which are earned titles
given by WCDF to distinguish accomplished players.
-
Ray Shelly, District 3 Manager & Tournament Director open the
pre-tournament meeting by welcoming 16 players, he covered the new tournament
format, schedule, rules, and what to expect from future PA/D3 tournaments.
-
This year Jason Solan & Ray Shelly, Sponsor/Director of the Pennsylvania/District 3
planned a different format with intentions of creating interest and increasing
participation.
-
The tournament consisted of five classes, Grand Masters,
Masters, Majors, Minors, and Youth Minors so 8 participants would fill each
class bracket. This would group talent more equal that playing a single
division or an A & B group, provided enough participants attended. The
Grand Masters/Masters (combined) division ran smoothly because there was enough entrants to fill
the division, others suffered because of the lack of attendance.
-
We commend Ray Shelly on implementing new ideas and generating
youth interest in the game of checkers in the Cambridge area by teaching and
promoting checkers.
-
4 youth players from the Cambridge, Maryland Elks Lodge # 1272 Chess & Checker
Club attend and played in the youth minors division. We welcome these
youth players.-
Edgar Akinson from Harrisburg, PA and Lloyd Auker from Manheim,
PA visited with checker friends and watched tournament games both days.
