• Congratulations! To IM Tim Laverty from Graham, NC as the winner of 2013 Burlington 11-Man Open State Tournament. Laverty is recognized as the 2013 NC 11-Man State Champion. This is his fourth title, winning his first State 11-Man title in 2009, and following up with 2011, 2012 and 2013.  A 11-Man State Champion Trophy was presented to Tim Laverty at the close of the tournament.
• Congratulations! To Ryan Pronk from Forest, Virginia as 2nd Place Winner and Teal Stanley from Greensboro, NC as Third Place.
• Congratulations! To Franklin Reynolds who played his first 11-Man Checker Tournament and we hope he will continue to play with us at McDonald's in Whitsett, NC on Thursday evenings.
• Players were welcomed to Libby Hill Seafood Restaurant by a nice door display sign announcing "Welcome !  2013 Burlington 11-Man Open Checker Tournament"
• GM stands for Grand Master, IM for International Master, and CM for Candidate Master, which are earned titles given to distinguish players by WCDF.
• We played 5 Swiss rounds as a Single 11-Man Class of 1½ hours per a 2 game round.  We started at 10:00 am and finished at 6:00 pm Saturday evening.  Our attendance was down this year which may have been because of Father's Day weekend.
• "T" separates player's opponent from player's game points.  Draw is 1, Win is 2 points,  Bye is 3, and Forfeit is 4.
• ACF Rating - supplied by ICH Checkers www.icheckers.net, processed by JR Smith
• New tournament players enters the system at a 1600 point base rating and increases or decreases by their performance with other rated players. They are technically unrated until completing 20 games and the reason why an opponent receives no points for beating an unrated player (<20 games) but will lose points if he is rated higher and draws or loses to him.
• There was a $20 entry fee which made up our $140 prize fund.
• An 11-Man Deck & System Poster Board was displayed at the tournament by Gayle Smith.  You can review the 11-Man Time Line here.
• Carolyn Minor sent a delicious nut cake with white cream icing, and Gayle Smith brought a grape salad. We appreciate these delightful treats!
• We want to thank Libby Hill Seafood Restaurant for hosting our tournament. They opened the playing room at 8:00 am Saturday morning for early registration and a practice session, provided hot coffee, ice tea/water & etc. during tournament, and everyone enjoyed their lunch.
• We want to thank Tim Laverty for scorekeeping and refereeing, and JR Smith & Teal Stanley for sponsoring the tournament.
