The Burlington Checker Club will participate in the Alamance Co. Cedarock Park - "Preserving Our Heritage Festival"  Saturday, August 27th, 2016  9am - 5pm. The annual festival is free and features demonstrations of turn-of-the-century skills that were typical on a farm of that era including weaving, tatting, lace-making, quilting, laundry, blacksmithing, beekeeping, log hewing & using hand tools and techniques for debarking logs and squaring timbers, butter churning, soap making, & much more. Antique tractors, tucks, cars, & "hit & miss" engines will be on display. Old-time children's games including checkers, sack races & egg toss. The usual and various food & drink vendors are available as refreshments provided by Danny’s Café will be available for purchase.  Live music all day featuring Buttermilk Creek, playing bluegrass and gospel. Come out & enjoy this fun, family-friendly event.  Yes, Checkers and Beekeeping will be there!  We will be the first two exhibits you will see as you pass through the main entrance. We are set up on the right side beside each other. We will have our 2017 NC State Open Checker Tournament banner on display and the checker players' tent set up beside the Alamance Co. Beekeepers. There should be plenty of tables, chairs, boards, and checkers so by-passers can pick up a game! or try their luck at playing a state champion!  For more details, call (336) 229-2410 or (336) 570-6759.
