The 2016 Southern Checker Tournament will be held on (Friday thru Sunday) July 8^th thru 10^th 2016, at the Comfort Suites in Lebanon, TN 37090. The hotel is located on Highway 231 (904 Murfreesboro Road) near I-40 (take exit 238 north off I-40 ramp and make left turn onto US-231 N / S CUMBERLAND ST / TN-10 N, back across I-40, hotel on right).

For reservations at Comfort Suites, call 615-443-0027 (74.95+Tennessee Tax 16.24% = Total $87.12 per night) or at Econo Lodge (map), located 829 S. Cumberland Street, 615-444-1001 (cost $49.95+ Tennessee Tax 16.24% = Total $58.06 per night) and tell them you are a checker player. Please call before June 23, 2016 (3 weeks in advance) for reservations; otherwise, rate is $180.00 at Comfort Suites. You should book your room early before the dead line because you have until 4:00 PM before the date of your arrival to cancel without charge or penalty. There is no guarantee the rates will apply or the rooms will be available after that date. The playing room is free provided a combined total (from both hotels) of 12 rooms are rented. Otherwise, there will be a daily fee. A continental breakfast is available at both locations; however, we play in the main conference room on the 1st floor at Comfort Suites.

On Friday, July 8th, registration begins at 9AM followed by a business meeting at 10AM. Tournament play will begin immediately following the business meeting. The tournament will consist of 8 rounds: 3 rounds on Friday, 4 rounds on Saturday, 1 round on Sunday. (Schedule) For reservations, call 1-615-449-5781 and tell them you are a checker player. King or Doubles at Checker Players' rate is $74.95 (Tennessee Tax 16.24% = Total $87.12 per night) Notice you have a choice to register at Comfort Suites for $84 or Econo Lodge at $58, we get credit at both places, but Comfort Suites has the larger playing room and more amenities. This is the 109th Southern! And one of the oldest continuous Checker Tournament in the country... A Southern Tradition! The first Southern States Checker Tournament was played in Atlanta, GA on 9/10 -12, 1908 and won by F. B. "Captain" Fishburne from Columbia, SC. It is held yearly since, and sanctioned by the American Checker Federation. Usually scheduled close to the 4th of July weekend, Friday thru Sunday.
