Funeral services for Mr. Randall Hugh Burton, age 92, will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, July 20, 2017 in the chapel of Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home with Anthony Bishop officiating. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Burton passed away July 16, 2017 in Jackson, Tennessee. He was born November 18, 1924 in Gates, Tennessee to the late Clay and Virgie Ford Burton. He graduated from Brownsville High School. Hugh was also recognized as a top producing salesman for Terminex where he worked for over 30 years. Hugh went on to be a world renowned checker champion. In fact, such were his accomplishments at the checker board that a state tournament was named in his honor. He was a wonderful, loving husband, father, grandfather and great friend to many. He married Peggy Burton in Walnut, Mississippi, on December 30th, 1950. He was raised in a Methodist church, a previous member at Oak Grove United Methodist Church and a current member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church.Mr. Burton was also preceded in death by his son, Randle Steven Burton; sister, Alyse Wells; brother, Leonard Burton; nephew, Daniel Lynn Burton. Surviving relatives include his wife, Peggy Joyce Burton; daughter, Patti Callan (Joe Solomito); grandchildren, Randle Clay Burton, Jestin Carlos Burton, Angelina Olivie’ Burton and Rachael Gabriella Burton; great-grandchildren, Madeline Burton and Regan Burton; his caregivers, all longtime companions and devoted to him are: Joella Brown, Chelsea Brown, Marjorie Burnett, Stephanie Eddings, Catherine McTizic and Kay Wilkes. We ask that any donations be sent to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Jackson, Tennessee or to the Alzheimer’s Association @alz.org Visitation will be on Thursday July 20th, 2017 from 12-2 Lawrence-Sorensen Funeral Home.
