Dr. Henderson Lamar "H. L." Cravens, Jr. was a political science professor at Howard Payne University at Brownwood, TX for nearly four decades.

Born: May 27, 1929 -  Died: Saturday, November 12, 1994 - Age: 65

Dr. Cravens never won a National but he dominated Texas Checkers in his prime. H. L. Cravens won the Texas State Championship 35 time.  He placed 3rd in the 1970 - 27th (3-Move) National in Houston, TX under Marion Tinsley and Don Lafferty, Walter Hellman didn't play. This would have placed Cravens third or fourth in the world at that time. His obituary in the "Yellow Jacket" reflects the gentleman he was and the contribution he made as a Texan and teacher.
