I have heard John answer the question, "Isn't Chess harder than Checkers... or I had rather play chess because checkers are easy."  He ask the student, "Had you rather work a cross-word puzzle with a pencil or with a pen?"  Now let's discuss why and think about you answer.  Chess you can move your pieces back if you later don't like the move, but checkers you can't move your man back, so you really have to think about what can happen before you move!  He plays chess and teaches both which are sister board games.
