Henry Adam Headinger, 81, of 728 Klumac Road, died Sunday (Jan. 16, 2005) at Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks Apt. 338C, Salisbury, NC Born May 4, 1923, in Spencer, He was a son of the late Mary Long Headinger and Henry A. Headinger Sr. He was a graduate of Spencer High School and graduated from Catawba College in 1944 with a B.S. degree in physics. He was a U.S. Marine Corps corporal, serving from 1944 -1946, during World War II, in the South Pacific and Japan. He worked for Southern Railway for 10 years and worked for Western Electric Co./AT &T/Lucent Technologies Co., retiring with a total of 27 years of service. He was a member of Wittenburg Lutheran Church in Granite Quarry, and a member of the Spencer Masonic Lodge and the Rowan Shrine Club. Survivors include his wife, Sarah Norris Headinger of Trinity Oaks; son Mark H. Headinger of Midlothian, Va.; sister Naomi Headinger of Spencer; and two grandchildren. Services: 1 p.m. Wednesday at Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Tom Cogan, minister of Wittenburg Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial in Rowan Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 to 7:30 tonight at Summersett Funeral Home. Memorials: Lutheran Services for the Aging Inc. (For Alzheimer's Care Center) P.O. Box 947, Salisbury, NC 28145-0947. Henry lived in Greensboro in mid '80s and later move to Salisbury. He won the 1998 NC Open State Checker Tournament "B" Class in Raleigh. He had a 2006 ACF Rating 1793. He also finished 3rd in Minors Division in 1994 3-Move National Tournament at Garland, Texas - 72 tournament entrants, 28 in minors. I have him playing in the 1986 Greensboro Tournament. Henry had “Lets Play Checkers” baseball caps available at the tournaments. |
