Death Notice… Eugene Roth Westmoreland, 73, of Shearers Road, Mooresville, N.C. died Sunday, April, 22, 2001. Gene had been confined to wheel chair in recent years.   He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Opal Owens Westmoreland and daughter Pam Westmoreland Sholar, M.D., and sons Henry Westmoreland, M.D., and John Westmoreland, plus other family relatives.  He was a retired Accountant.  Gene was an ACF Life Member and one of the top checker players in N.C. for many years.  He was always the perfect gentleman and pleasant to play.  The family has suggested that memorial funds may be made to First Presbyterian Church in Mooresville or the American Checker Federation, c/o Lester Balderson, President at 6517 Patterson Avenue, Richmond, VA 23226.  At this time, 16 donations to ACF in memory of Gene have been received and acknowledged for total of $410.
