The 2019 Southern Checker Tournament will be held on (Friday thru Sunday) July 5th thru July 7th The Comfort Suites in Lebanon, TN 37090. The hotel is located on Highway 231 (904 Murfreesboro Road) near I-40 (take exit 238 north off I-40 ramp and make left turn onto US-231 N / S CUMBERLAND ST / TN-10 N, back across I-40, hotel on right).
Frank died 12/21/18 but Mary Davis continues to support this tournament in his memory.
For reservations at Comfort Suites, call 615-443-0027 ($84.95 +Tennessee Tax 16.25% = Total $98.75 per night) or at Econo Lodge (map), located 829 S. Cumberland Street, 615-444-1001 (cost $64.95 +Tennessee Tax 16.25% = Total $75.50 per night) and tell them you are a checker player. Please call before June 19, 2019 (2 weeks in advance). There is no guarantee the rates will apply or the rooms will be available after that date. Please make your reservations early, since you may cancel them as late as 4 pm the day before your arrival. The playing room is free provided a combined total (from both hotels) of 10 rooms are rented. Otherwise, there will be a daily fee. A continental breakfast is available at both locations; however, we play in the main conference room on the 1st floor at Comfort Suites.
The tournament consists of three (3) divisions. Three rounds will be played on Friday, four on Saturday, and one on Sunday. Registration will begin at 9AM on Friday followed by a business meeting at 10AM. Play will start immediately following the business meeting and ends on Sunday by noon (Schedule). This is the 112th Southern! And one of the oldest continuous Checker Tournament in the country... A Southern Tradition! The first Southern States Checker Tournament was played in Atlanta, GA on 9/10 -12, 1908 and won by F. B. "Captain" Fishburne from Columbia, SC.
