We have a block of 15 rooms reserved under "Checker Tournament" - Group rate of $70.95 + tax = $75.53  for king or double, non-smoking, available November 14th through 16th; however, most players will book the 14th & 15th. Same venue we have used in the past years under the new Quality Inn hotel chain name. You must let desk receptionist, know you are a checker player to get discount and please make your reservation by phone. Please reserve your room early since you may cancel anytime prior to check-in, until 4:00 PM on the date of your arrival without charge or penalty. We have "Rembrandt" a large banquet / conference (52 capacity) playing room  for our tournament on the 15th & 16th for $100 per day. We combined our ACF District 4 tournament with the Virginia Open. Currently the breakfast buffet, hotel restaurant & dinning room are closed; however, management informed me 8/21/23 this facility should be open by our tournament dates. The Bar & Grill "Rosie's 777 Game Room" on 2nd floor is open for club sandwiches, burgers, etc. Hotel provides a Continual Breakfast in the lobby: (cereals, Danish muffins, bagels, yogurt, juices, coffee, tea, milk, waffle iron, counter has an assortment of Lance crackers, Granola, Nutri-Grain, & Fig bars, etc.) Refrigerator has breakfast items: omelets, ham biscuits, Jimmy Dean sausage, egg, & cheese biscuit, boiled eggs. Various eateries close by so click above on “Collinsville Eateries & Restaurants.”  Get directions by: click “map”  above. Registration begins at 8:00 AM and VA & D4 Business Meeting: 8:30 - 9:00 AM, Tournament Starts at 9:00 AM. We considered these hotel venues.

• Congratulations! To GM Alex Holmes from Louisville, Kentucky our 2023 VA Open Tournament Winner.
• Congratulations! To MS Dr. John Webster from Stoneville, NC  who finished in 2nd place and our 2023 ACF District 4 Champion.
• Congratulations! To GM Richard Beckwith from Willoughby, OH who finished in a 3rd place on honor points over MS Tim Laverty from Graham, NC who tied on game points.
• Congratulations! To Buck Smith from Millboro, Virginia and recognized as out 2023 Commonwealth of Virginia Champion.
• The tournament was 7 rounds of Swiss, plus a single re-pair match between the top two players in the final round with the highest accumulative Total Game Match Points.
• There were 11 players and 7 rounds of play with bye round given in 1st Rd, then to lowest accumulative total game match points player who has not already received a bye round.
• All 11 players played in a "single group" of Masters, Majors, and Minors players.  All players paid a $25 entry fee at registration for a total player's fee of $275.00.
• The $1,275.00 Tournament budget was a combination of $275.00 entry fees, and Joe McDaniel's generous $1,000 contribution.
• A playing room expense of $200 was paid leaving a Total Prize Fund $1,065.00, and the remaining $10 went toward our pizza dinner.
• We appreciate Dave Beachy from Sarasota, Florida for paying for our Saturday Domino Pizza Lunch, bottle water, & drinks. We brought pizza in after Round 5 which allowed players eat & play.
• Thank you again Joe McDaniel, Thank You VA card for supporting our 2023 VA & District 4 tournament with a $1,000.00 prize fund contribution.
• All players signed a sympathy card for John Webster's wife Micky, who is scheduled for breast cancer surgery in September.
• Oldest checker player was Buck Smith from Millboro, Virginia - age 92, he was born March 16, 1931 and the youngest was Alex Holmes age 24, from Louisville, KY born 2/28/1999.
• We offer a big Thank You to all who help make this tournament a success, especially Gayle, our score-keeper and referee.
• JR & Gayle celebrated their 55th anniversary September 15, and Buck and Barbara will celebrated their 67th on September 22.
