We have a block of 10 rooms reserved under
"Checker Tournament" -
2024 Dutch Inn Group Contract
of $79
+ 11.3% tax = $87.93 for king or double, non-smoking, available November 19th
through 22nd; however, most players will book the 19th & 20th. Same venue we
have used in the past years under the Quality Inn hotel chain name. You must
let desk receptionist, know you
are a checker player to get discount
and please make your reservation by phone. Please reserve your
room early since you may cancel anytime prior to check-in, until 4:00 PM on the date of your arrival
without charge or penalty. We have
"Rembrandt" a large banquet / conference
(52 capacity) playing room for our
tournament on the 20th & 21st for
$100 per day. We combined our ACF District 4 tournament
with the Virginia Open.
There are prize funds,
door prizes, & trophies
for each division.
The Hotel
Restaurant / Dinning
Room is open for brunch (11-3) on the weekends (Friday thru Sunday). Treat yourself to the new brunch
buffet, just $14.95 and enjoy 10% off to seniors.
The Restaurant is open daily (11-10:30 PM). The Bar & Grill
"Rosie's 777 Game Room"
on 2nd floor is open for
club sandwiches, burgers, etc. We announced our Annual Old Dominion Checker Tournament &
Youth Tournament

Hotel also provides a small Continual
Breakfast in the lobby: (cereals, Danish muffins, bagels, yogurt, juices, coffee, tea, milk,
waffle iron, counter has an assortment of Lance crackers, Granola, Nutri-Grain, & Fig
bars, etc.) Refrigerator
has breakfast items: omelets, ham biscuits, Jimmy Dean sausage, egg, & cheese
biscuit, boiled eggs. There are also various eateries close by so click above on

VA & D4 Business Meeting: 8:30 - 9:00 AM, Tournament Starts at 9:00 AM.
The public is welcome and our tournament players are invited to renew old
friendships and play some excellent checker games.

Dr. John Webster from Stoneville, NC and MS Tim Laverty from Graham, NC
as Co-Champions of the 2023 VA Open and
recognized as Tournament Winner.
- No Virginia Commonwealth resident participated in this years VA Open and
D4 Tournament, so there will be no
2024 Commonwealth of Virginia Champion.
- Congratulations! To MS Teal Stanley from Greensboro, NC who finished in 2nd place
in the 2023 VA Open.

Congratulations! To MS Dr. John Webster from
Stoneville, NC and MS Tim Laverty from Graham, NC as Co-Champions of our
2024 ACF District 4 Champion.
- Congratulations! To our Youth players who finished as: Nolan Forsee
from Statesville, NC as First Place, Luther Ross from Burlington, NC as
Second Place, and Emmy Forsee from Statesville, NC as Third Place.
- Buck
Smith, President of Old Dominion Checker Association did not attend this year's
tournament because he was vacationing with his three sons and family on a Rhine
River Cruise.

Buck Smith from Millboro,
Virginia - age 93, he was born March 16, 1931

here were 9 players, 6 Master/Majors and 3
Youth participants.
- All players paid a $25 entry fee at registration for a total player's fee of
150.00, with the Youth players played free.

The $1,833.38 Tournament budget was a combination of
$150.00 entry fees, contributions, and
a withdrawal from NCCA trust account.
-
Our playing "Hagan" Room cost $200.
- We appreciate Buck Smith, Bob Forsee, and Alan Millhone contributing
to the playing room expense.
- We offer a big Thank You to all who help make this tournament a success, especially Gayle, our score-keeper and
Tim Laverty, our referee.
- JR & Gayle celebrated their 56th anniversary September 15.
