Dear Sharon,
I want to arrange a brief appearance for Mayor Bill Knight at our upcoming
North Carolina State Checker Tournament.
I am proud of him, voted for him, and think he is doing a fine job, and making
progress even in tuff times.
Maybe he could drop by Friday morning, May 13, 2011 and welcome our out of town
players. We will gather in the meeting room for registration at 8:30 am to 10:00
am at the Libby Hill Seafood Restaurant, 3011 Randleman Road, Greensboro, NC
27406 (336)-275-7688. Any time between 8:30-10 am would be ideal.
This is the 121st Annual North Carolina Open Checker Tournament, scheduled for
Friday and Saturday, May 13th and 14th of May, 2011. The Tournament will feature
some of the best crossboard checker players from the state and nation. It is an
open format allowing anyone interested to sign up and compete. There will be
players from at least 8 other states including North Carolina. The highest
finishing North Carolina player will be recognized as the 2011 North Carolina
State Champion.
We start Friday morning, May 13th with registration at 8:00 am, and hopefully
Mayor Bill Knight will be able to welcome our out of town players that morning,
followed by a business meeting and play begins at 10:00 am. We will play all day
Friday and Saturday. An entry fee of $25 plus an ACF membership is required,
which is a $25 yearly subscription that may be purchased at registration.
This is an American Checker Federation and North Carolina Checker Association (NCCA)
sanctioned tournament.
I have included some links so you can read more about North Carolina Checkers.
Its the same checkers you played as a child but on a professional level. Checker
rules and moves are simple but the game on this level requires concentration and
visualization. The depth of possibilities and consequences are equal to chess.
