Bill Quidley Sr.

“Bill” Quidley Sr., 81, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, May 5, 2007 at New
Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington Funeral services will be held at 11
a.m. Wednesday at the Jacksonville Church of God with the Rev. Tom Eagle
officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Coastal Carolina State
Veterans Cemetery. A son of the late John and Emma Midgette Quidley, he was a
native of Carteret County. Bill was a veteran of World War II, having served
onboard the USS Merrill with the United States Coast Guard. After serving with
the Coast Guard, he continued his service to his country by becoming one of the
first Jacksonville police officers. He then began work as a graphic design
artist with the Civil Service aboard Camp Lejeune, which he did for over 30
years. Bill was a member of the Jacksonville Church of God, where he was a past
Sunday school teacher, a board member, a greeter and an Elder. He loved giving
and getting hugs, bowling, checkers, bluegrass music and playing his banjo.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Yates Quidley of the home; two sons, William
Lewis Quidley Jr. of Dudley and Dan Allen Lane of Wilmington; two daughters,
Virginia Quidley Griffin of Dudley and Melissa Lane Cooper of Hampstead;
brother, Richard Arlen Lewis of Harkers Island; eightgrand children and two
great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at
Jones Funeral Home in Jacksonville. PAID OBITUARY
