The 2006 Burlington Checker Tournament was held at the Checkerboard Grill on Church Street in Burlington on Saturday, June 10. Kevin Burks of Gretna, Va., won the Ty.  In addition to winning this Ty and being the current Virginia State Champion, he is qualified to play in the U.S. Nationals in Medina, Ohio.  If he can win the Master Division Championship here, he could challenge for the world title against Alex Moiseyev.  Club president and tournament director Mike Ross invites all local checker players to come weekly on Thursday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. and play with our local Burlington Checker Club at the Kernodle Senior Center, 1535 S. Mebane St., Burlington.
