W.E. Williams age: 97  Birth: Oct 7, 1895   Death: Jan 7, 1992

Wilcie E. "Turkey" Williams was a peach farmer and turkey hunter from Bealeton, a rural community about 40 minutes NNE of Fredericksburg, VA.  He usually showed up at the summer checker tournaments with a basket of nice peaches fresh off his farm for all to enjoy.  He was known for his broad brimmed straw hat, colorful suspenders, and pipe, and a great supporter of checkers throughout the Southeast. W.E. in his younger years, worked with the Washington, DC Police Force.  He was later selected and recruited as a personal guard to former presidents, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, and Franklin Roosevelt.  He moved back to Virginia and bought a farm, after retiring from government security service.  He was a master beekeeper and seem to pursue all his hobbies with the greatest of zeal, who lived near 100 and donated his extensive checker library to Charles Walker - ICHF.  W.E. Williams was a ACF Life Member and a Life Member of NCCA which was transferred to NCCA Life Members In Memorial.  His daughter Mrs. Jeannye Wehner would drive and accompanied him to the tournaments in his later years.  Born October 8, 1894 - Died January of 1992.
