Congratulations! to Jeff Webster as our 2011 NC State Majors Checker Champion.

Congratulations! to Trey Stanley who turned 16 years old in April and entered the tournament late, missing 2 rounds Friday because of school but managed to win the 2011 NC State Minors Checker Championship and also continues to be our 2011 NC State Youth Champion.

GM stands for Grand Master, IM for International Master, and CM for Candidate Master, which are earned titles given by WCDF to distinguish accomplished players.

Ratings are from the WCDF Rating No.7 (through June 2010) released 10/20/2010.

"T" separates player's opponent from player's accumulated game points. Draw is 1, Win is 2 points, Bye is 3, and Forfeit is 4.

In the 9:00AM business meeting we elected Teal Stanley as our new NCCA President, Bill McClintock our NCCA Treasurer reported on the financial status of the trust account, saying combined balances were $27,866.80 as of 3/31/2011. We voted to play a Single Swiss Division with a Masters, Majors, and Minors class to award trophies to each class. We will re-pair opponents only in the last round when necessary. We also voted that a 3 point bye would be awarded to the lowest opponent; thereafter, to the lowest opponent as 2 points if multiple byes.

Deceased players from last year were remembered: Don Andrews, Ron Bailey, Waldo Barton, Wallace Clayton, Wade Ferrell, Walter Gardner, Wade Holder, Warren Meacham, Bill Murray, Cecil Lowe, and Ralph Stokes.

We had 27 players from 5 states (5 Masters, 16 Majors, and 5 Minors played) 19 from NC; 4 from TN; 2 from WV; 1 from KY; and 1 from VA. Garland Phillips declined to play because of lateness.

We appreciated the donations and contributions which totaled $2,190.00 for the cash prize fund. $2,155.00 was actually the amount paid out because withdrawals were not paid and the difference returned to next years account.

We played two 1. 25 hour games per round, or an eight 2. 5 hour round tournament, starting at 10AM on Friday and 8:00AM on Saturday and finishing by 6:30PM.

We recognize Trey Stanley as the youngest player at 16 years old and his grandfather Bill Stanley as the oldest player at age 89 with his 90th birthday on July 22nd.

Many wives and friends attended, namely: Mary Davis, Shirley Lerum, Carol Williamson, Rosalee Wilson, Gayle Smith, Stephanie Woolum, and Olivette Pritchett, also Rodney's parents Roger & Bonnie Smith, etc.

Tim Laverty, our referee and scorekeeper did a fantastic job as usual.

We welcome our first time tournament players Bob St. Lawrence and Rodney Smith.

We appreciate Libby Hill Seafood Restaurant for hosting our tournament and their meeting room services throughout our tournament.

The News-Record did a nice newspaper article that ran Saturday and will also feature us again this coming Thursday, in the Greensboro News-Record Life Section. Sara Gregory, staff writer and Jerry Wolford, staff photographer spent Friday and Saturday interviewing, shooting video, and taking pictures of this event.

A delightful tournament & wonderful fellowship was had by all who attended.
